Veterans Job and Resource Fair at B.T. Collins Army Reserve Center

This November SETA Sacramento Works, in partnership with the California Employment Development Department (EDD), hosted its annual Veterans Job and Resource Fair at the B.T. Collins Army Reserve Center. This impactful event brought together over 40 employers and resource providers to support veterans, active military personnel, and their families, while welcoming members of the public.

“This is our third or fourth year hosting the event,” said Gregory Williams, WDP Supervisor at SETA. “We started this to honor those who served in the military and their families, but it’s open to anyone. It’s a meaningful way to connect people with opportunities.”

A Collaborative Effort to Serve Veterans

This year’s event attracted around 120 attendees eager to explore career opportunities and connect with employers. Attendees had multiple ways to participate, including pre-registration, QR code check-ins, and manual sign-ins.

The event featured a strong lineup of employers, including Kaiser Permanente, CalHR, Pride Industries, and the DMV, offering a mix of public and private sector opportunities. Resource providers like EDD provided guidance and services tailored to veterans and their families.

A standout feature was the “How to Get a State Job” workshop, which drew a lot of interest. Led by EDD representatives, the session walked attendees through the process of applying for state positions, a career path that aligns well with many veterans’ skills.

Connecting Job Seekers with Opportunities

Feedback from the Veterans Job and Resource Fair was overwhelmingly positive. Participants appreciated the welcoming atmosphere, access to diverse job openings, and guidance on navigating the hiring process.

For employers looking for immediate hiring opportunities, SETA offers smaller pop-up events throughout the year. These events host two to three employers to sit in our lobby, much like they would a job fair.  “As people come through, employers can proactively approach them to talk about hiring opportunities,” explained Williams. “The United States Postal Service recently participated, and they had a line out the door for seasonal hiring.”

Interested in hosting an event?

Williams extended an open invitation to employers interested in participating in future events, which SETA hosts regularly in various formats, including virtual career fairs and Monday pop-up events.
