Since opening in 1965, Decore-ative Specialties (DS) has served the cabinetry industry through multiple business cycles and industry trends. As a provider of custom components to cabinetmakers, Decore-ative Specialties has navigated many changes including consumer preferences and materials regulations. In 2020, when it became clear it was time to consolidate some business locations and shutter their Elk Grove shop, DS took a proactive approach by partnering with SETA/Sacramento Works.
Laying off the 133 employees at their Elk Grove location was going to be a difficult task and DS HR manager, Teresa, wanted to do it right. She reached out to SETA/Sacramento Works to learn how their Rapid Response program might help. SETA/Sacramento Works responded right away and established an ongoing relationship with Decore-ative Specialties and the employees who would need to be placed with new companies.
SETA/Sacramento Works’ Rapid Response Team provides timely services to downsizing or closing businesses and their employees. Services include coordination with outplacement services, re-employment, and training options for employees. This often leads to improved morale and productivity during the transition.
Teresa was pleasantly surprised by her experience with SETA/Sacramento Works. She had only expected SETA/Sacramento Works to supply brochures, but received many more resources. Staff worked with her schedule to be available during such a pivotal time for the company and its staff.
In the end, Decore-ative Specialties was able to downsize their Elk Grove location and consolidate the manufacturing and headquarters in Southern California. They continue to serve cabinetmakers and maintain a distribution site in Elk Grove keeping this longtime family business in operation. Teresa says she would definitely recommend SETA/Sacramento Works to businesses navigating adjustments to their personnel.
