Administrative & Support Services

The Administrative and Support Services occupational cluster is comprised of a diverse group of occupations. In addition to occupations directly related to office administration, clerical support, and finance and insurance. Also included in this broad group are occupations that provide a wide variety of support-related activities and services, including firefighting and investigation and security related occupations.

Fire Science Online provides information on a range of public service careers including those in homeland security, forestry, emergency management and criminal justice.

Agriculture, Food & Hospitality

The Agriculture, Food, and Hospitality occupational cluster is primarily comprised of occupations involved in providing food production, food service and accommodations related activities as well as occupations providing customer service, recreation, and entertainment related activities.

Construction & Clean Energy Technology

The Construction and Clean Energy occupational cluster is primarily comprised of occupations involved in the construction and design of buildings. Many of the occupations in this occupational cluster are also directly related to clean energy technology.

The Health Services and Life Sciences occupational cluster is comprised of occupations employed by hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities, physician’s offices, dental offices, outpatient care centers, and medical/diagnostic laboratories. This group also includes biomedical and life science related businesses.

The Information and Communications Technology occupational cluster is comprised of occupations involved in the design, production, and administration of communications and computer hardware and software systems and networks. The Installation, Maintenance, and Repair occupational cluster is primarily comprised of occupations involved in restoring machinery, equipment, and other products to working order as well as occupations that typically provide general or routine maintenance or service on products to ensure that they work efficiently and to prevent breakdown and unnecessary repairs.

Transportation, Production & Manufacturing

The Transportation, Production, and Manufacturing occupational cluster is comprised of a diverse group of occupations directly related to the actual manufacturing and/or production of goods, as well as the manufacturing of industrial machinery, recycling, and green energy manufacturing efforts. Also included in this category are occupations related to the storage, distribution, and transportation of manufactured goods. Many of the occupations in this occupational cluster are also directly related to clean energy technology.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

A state and federal aid program for students who are attending a university, four year college and a community college to help pay for educational expenses such as tuition, fees, and books. This is free money for college. The deadline is March 2nd of each year. Get help paying for college here!

Federal Pell Grant

This grant is intended to assist eligible low- and middle income students to attend a university, four-year college, and a community college of their choice. Pell Grants are awarded to every undergraduate student who qualifies based on their financial need and don’t have to repaid. They can be used for tuition, fees, and living expenses. Many of our regions school districts offer various enrichment and vocational classes as well as assistance to those wishing to obtain their GED. Generally, there is a fee.

Community College Programs

The region’s local community colleges offer certificate programs developed with the assistance of business and industry advisory committees. These programs provide vocational training for students who are not seeking a college degree. Many Associate of Arts programs are offered at the community colleges which will prepare you for a career in a variety of industries.

University Programs

• Sacramento State University

Sacramento Job Corps Center

Job Corp is a U.S. Department of Labor-funded program for low-income residents of Sacramento County and Yolo County, ages 16-24 years. This program has facilities for residential and non-residential students and offers vocational training, GED preparation and testing, and English-as-a-Second Language. Students receive medical and dental care, clothing allotments, a monthly living allowance, housing, meals and a subsidized savings program. Counseling and job placement services are also available.

California Conservation Corps (CCC)

You must be 18-23 years of age, not on probation, or parole, and a California resident. You will be contracted for one-year with the California Conservation Corps. Corps members are assigned to residential or non-residential centers located throughout California. Members are employed full-time to landscape, build parks, restore historical structures and respond to emergencies such as wild land fires, floods, oil spills, and earthquakes. CCC offers educational assistance and a scholarship upon completion of the Corps.

Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps (SLCC)

Participants are 18-23 years of age and residents of Sacramento County or West Sacramento. SLCC is dedicated to conserving Sacramento’s natural resources. Corps members are trained in public service conservation work including stream clearance, tree planting, public parks development, beautification, and recycling. An education program is a mandatory component of the SLCC. Classes are provided in the areas of G.E.D. preparation, career development, C.P.R. and First Aid certification training, conservation, community awareness, and life skills.

AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps is a National Community Service Program. AmeriCorps is often referred to as the “domestic Peace Corps.” Participants — known as AmeriCorps members — perform a year of service with a program that meets local community needs in return for a modest living allowance and education award.
