Juneteenth Holiday

Juneteenth is the holiday commemorating the effective end to slavery in the United States. Juneteenth comes from the combination of “June” and “nineteenth”, the day in 1865 in which federal troops ensured freedom to the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, abolishing slavery nearly 2.5 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. June 19th has since been observed as a day of celebration of Black culture, achievement, and a time to reflect on the shared history and ongoing fight for racial justice and equity.  This year marks the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth.  President Joe Biden signed into law the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, on June 17, 2021. as a Federal Holiday.  Please open the attached flyer, and learn about Juneteenth as well local events.
